BATES,
Hal Former journalist, 78, passed away January 14, 2008. Beloved
husband of Selma for 41 years, he is also survived by daughter, Jackie;
son, Stephen (Christina); stepson, Michael (Janine); and grandchildren,
Sara, Luke, and Jade; plus granddog, Shayna. Hal's bio includes U.S.
Marines, UCLA, and various entertainment publications such as Hollywood
Reporter and National Enquirer. As much as he adored his family, women,
and babies, his lifelong passion was classical music, especially opera.
We will always remember his warmth, charm, intellect, and humor. A
remembrance gathering will take place at a future date. Play Mahler for
